Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide care within the ambulatory/outpatient clinic setting. This position is located in Appleton, WI at Children's Wisconsin. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Position Highlights:

  • Work with a pulmonary team to provide high-quality care in the outpatient ambulatory setting for patients with pulmonary needs, including but not limited to asthma, recurrent cough, and chronic lung disease.
  • Will see and care for patients on an independent clinic schedule with the ability to quickly and easily collaborate with pulmonary physicians as needed.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans specific to pulmonary conditions.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans specific to pulmonary conditions.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behavior
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
  • Primary work location in Appleton, WI
  • Will directly report to the APP Manager with indirect reports to the Division Administrator and Division Chief.

Schedule:

  • Full-time (1.0 FTE), salaried (exempt) position.
  • Expectations for coverage during core clinic business hours. Typical schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage. May require evening or weekend hours in the future based on business needs.

Department/Division Highlights:

Our Pulmonary Medicine Program provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care through pulmonary and sleep physicians, advanced practice providers, nutritionists, and social workers, while advancing education and research in pediatric pulmonary and sleep medicine. Our board-certified or board-eligible physicians care for more than 8,000 outpatients and 2,500 inpatients each year at Children's Wisconsin. The program includes Wisconsin's only pediatric sleep center accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine—one of only 25 accredited centers in the country dedicated solely to children—as well as a nationally accredited cystic fibrosis center with a strong emphasis on cystic fibrosis care and research.

In partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin, our faculty conduct research to develop and advance new treatments, including playing an important role in identifying EVALI (E-cigarette or Vaping product use Associated Lung Injury), and are active in community advocacy and state and national efforts to reduce youth vaping.

Qualifications:

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous APP pediatric pulmonary experience preferred.
  • Open to experienced APPs; new graduates may be considered with relevant clinical training.

Minimum Education:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse:
    Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.
  • Physician Assistant:
    Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner
    • Wisconsin RN License
    • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
    • Certification Requirements
      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization
  • Physician Assistant
    • Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
    • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
