Summary
This position is located at the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Cross Plains, Wisconsin.
Major DutiesAt the full performance level (GS‑09) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Carry out provisions of the National Trails System Act (P.L. 90‑543, as amended) pertaining to the geospatial aspect of planning and administering the Ice Age NST.
- Administer all functions related to ArcGIS, provide technical support, and collect data with GPS while proposing creative ways to use technology to advance trail development and advanced interpretation.
- Create presentations of findings and effectively communicate project details to interested parties, partners, and members of the public.
- Develop project work‑plans and implementation strategies leading to the completion of restoration efforts, trail development, mitigation actions, and participate as a member of the planning and interdisciplinary team.
- Interpret variables, trends, correlations, and interrelationships between data and work‑project conditions to provide reports to managers and interested parties.
- Encourage and facilitate cooperation, pride, trust, and teamwork that fosters commitment to the Ice Age NST and supports the goals established with partners.
This position has a mandatory education requirement. Transcripts must include your name, school name, grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, and date the degree was conferred, if applicable. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable, but if you are selected you must provide official transcripts before beginning work. If your ring order is sub‑100, you can proceed.
Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and deemed at least equivalent to U.S. education programs.
RequirementsMust provide proof of U.S. citizenship, be subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication, and meet all other statutory and administrative requirements. Applicants must present a valid state driver’s license and be at least 18 years old, or meet the educational criteria described. See the agency’s regulations for the full list of qualifications.
Other InformationPhysical demands: the work requires standing, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy to heavy objects. The position may involve strenuous activities such as climbing and working in physically dangerous areas or settings. Document research and report‑writing duties are sedentary.
Work environment: work is performed primarily indoors, occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions. Outdoor assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas, including steep slopes, rocky terrain, and other natural hazards. On occasion, you may fly in fixed‑wing aircraft and helicopters.
