REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Facilities Trades, Occupational and Environmental Safety
LOCATION : Facilities Operations with daily assignments in university buildings throughout campus.
HOURS OF WORK : 7:00am to 3:30 pm with occasional call ins
DAYS OF WORK : Monday through Friday
Primary ObjectiveServe as lead carpenter, taking a leadership role on campus projects and assignments. Work independently and with other trades personnel to complete work orders related to carpentry and general maintenance in all university-owned buildings. Perform a variety of duties necessary to construct, install, and/or repair both the external and internal structure and fixtures of all types of university buildings.
Duties- Construct, install, and repair partitions, cabinets, shelves, windows, screens and storms, and ironwork. Remodel basic frame structures.
- Install and repair suspended ceilings, formica, doors, door locks, and checks, window balances, and various fixtures including drapery rods, shades and blinds, bathroom fixtures, toilet partitions, mirrors, bulletin boards, etc.
- Repair floors, plaster and drywall, ceilings, furniture, etc.
- Paint and touch up walls as needed.
- Assist with training and supervision of student workers.
- Coordinate work orders.
- Additional tasks and assignments to assist in the overall mission of Facilities Operations.
- Oversee work being done by outside contractors.
- Timely completion and tracking of assigned work orders.
- Provide a high level of customer service and satisfaction by responding promptly to all customer requests and/or complaints and communicate them to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Engrave name plates.
- Repair garage doors.
- Install building and door signage throughout campus.
- Help with moving all types of furniture on campus.
- Oversee work being done by outside contractors.
- Additional tasks and assignments to assist in the overall mission of Facilities Operations.
- Act as a liaison between the facilities team, contractors, and vendors.
Will work collaboratively with all members of the Facilities Operations staff and occupants of the various university buildings where work is being performed. Must be able to provide excellent customer service to all members of the campus community, to respond to and work with students, faculty, and staff in a professional and courteous manner, and to work independently and with team members.
KNOWLEDGEAND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Ability to lead a small crew on various projects.
- Prefer 5-7 years previous carpentry experience.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to climb using step and extension ladders.
- Helpful to have general knowledge of construction of garages, buildings, etc.
- Efficient and effective communication with supervisor, other tradesmen, and customers.
- Must possess excellent customer services skills.
- Self-starter who can complete assigned projects without supervision.
- Ability to read and follow oral or written instructions.
- General math skills.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and use a computer including e-mail and online work orders or instructions.
- Excellent work attendance.
- Must be available for occasional after hours, weekend, on-call, and call-in duties.
- Ability to operate powered hand tools.
- University vehicle.
- Trade related hand tools, common maintenance tools.
- Must have successful completion of criminal record check, pre-employment physical and pre-work screen, driving record check and reference checks.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and must be able to pass the requirements to be a Lawrence University Driver and must complete campus drivers training.
- Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
