we’re looking for someone with experience in equipment preventative maintenance and repair, along with a solid background in millwright or plant maintenance work. A two‑year technical degree or trade certification is preferred.

this position offers a consistent 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Schedule
, with occasional overtime opportunities as needed and based on business need.

reporting directly to the solid waste equipment/facility superintendent, the recycling and solid waste millwright / equipment maintenance technician performs generalized labor and technical skills in the maintenance and repair of machinery, buildings, and equipment.

responsibilities
  • ideal candidate will be an experienced millwright or technician with a background servicing various stationary and mobile hydraulic equipment, electric motors, and pneumatic process systems.
  • be able to diagnose and repair electric and hydraulic controls associated with conveyors, bailers, compressors, wheel loaders, hook trucks, other small site vehicles and equipment.
  • have experience with hydraulic pumps, valves, motors.
  • have well rounded electro‑mechanical experience.
  • performs various skilled and semi‑skilled tasks typical of a millwright in the repair and maintenance of process machinery, belts and conveyors, site buildings, and site equipment.
  • tests, troubleshoots, maintains, and evaluates equipment performance using instruments such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, and pressure gages.
  • checks and repairs landfill system pumps, valves, and motors.
  • prepares accurate records for preventative maintenance performed.
  • performs equipment operations for testing and production.
  • communicates arising problems to department supervisors.
  • maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.
  • light welding and fabrication skills.
  • performs other duties as assigned.
qualifications
  • two years' experience in equipment preventative maintenance and repair.
  • general experience in millwright services or plant maintenance work.
  • two years technical school training and trade certification preferred.
  • or, any combination of education and experience which provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • this position does require successful completion of a post offer pre employment examination (pope).
  • must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
  • knowledge of and demonstrated ability to harmonize and align with the mission/vision/purpose/core values/goals of the department and comply with all policies, and procedures of the outagamie county work rules and terms of employment.
  • demonstrated ability to comply with appropriate safety regulations.
  • good communication skills, oral and written, to relate to supervisors and co‑workers in problem identification and solving.
  • ability to effectively communicate in english and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • ability to work semi‑independently making sound decisions using good judgment.
  • ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with co‑workers, county officials and officers, general public, etc.
  • demonstrated reliability in attendance and flexibility to work hours, especially in adverse weather conditions.
  • ability to organize and maintain accurate and complete records, and prepare clear and comprehensive reports.
  • knowledge of and ability to operate and service trucks, tractors, and light equipment.
  • knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in equipment operation.
  • ability to work in adverse weather conditions, and cope with distracting vibrations, fumes, dust, etc.
  • ability to read gauges, dials, etc.
  • ability to budget time and schedule work to efficiently complete tasks.
  • ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and figure simple mathematical calculations.
  • ability to organize and schedule work effectively and cooperatively with co‑workers.
