About the Position
Maintenance Mechanic 2 – Building Maintenance within the Construction & Facilities Management Office (CFMO) at JBLM, WA. The role supports safe, functional, high‑quality facilities for all occupants. This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation.
Responsibilities- Journey‑level work for repair, restoration, and replacement tasks via work orders.
- Journey‑level work for non‑repair tasks such as whiteboard installations, furniture moving, and facility inspections.
- Journey‑level preventative maintenance for mechanical, structural, and electrical components including HVAC, plumbing, emergency egress, and other infrastructure.
- Assist grounds and custodial crews with mowing, edging, pruning, cleaning, trash removal, snow removal, and debris removal.
- Two (2) years experience as a Maintenance Mechanic 1.
- OR:
High school diploma or GED AND three (3) years of general experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, and/or repair work.
- Knowledge of building materials, tools, and safety programs.
- Ability to perform journey‑level work in all types of building maintenance.
- Read plans and blueprints.
- Effectively lay out and perform building maintenance and construction installation, alteration, and repairs.
- Basic grounds and custodial services.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Strong learning and development orientation.
- Strong service‑oriented mindset.
Wage/salary depends on qualifications and promotion rules.
Conditions of Employment- Must complete required background checks and obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) for a DoD Secret‑level security clearance.
- Position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA).
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License complying with REAL .
- Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation such as Camp Murray or JBLM, including access via the Defense Biometric Identification System.
- Work hours:
Friday–Monday, Thursday–Sunday, or Saturday–Tuesday (4/10 schedule). Core business hours 8:00 am–4:00 pm; shifts no earlier than 6:00 am and no later than 6:00 pm. - No telework eligibility.
- Possible emergency assignment requiring alternate locations with rotating shifts, weekends, evenings.
- Occasional statewide travel up to 5% of time, including overnight stays.
