Position: Mobile Trailer Mechanic II Variable

Job Summary

Mobile Trailer Repair Technician II – The Mobile Trailer Technician II is responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. The work is performed at the customer’s site. The position is a dedicated on‑site role that does not provide emergency side‑of‑road type repairs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on various trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
  • Document work using the company TRAIT application on company‑issued iOS devices, uploading pictures of work performed and all findings.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment and systems such as brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation promptly.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
  • Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Independently manage parts inventory, maintain the company‑issued service truck, and conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks as needed.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and adherence to standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors when necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approval on repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Participate in and complete all required safety training.
  • Maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (Trailers). Other combinations are acceptable, such as a higher degree or 5 years’ experience.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools required for job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Complete all required company training.
  • Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted instead of a DOT physical.
  • Be at least 21 years old and possess a valid state‑resident driver’s license. Maintain a Driver Qualification File.

  • ASE 608/609 (Electrical)
  • ASE T4 (Brakes)
  • ASE T5 (Suspension)
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC)
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods and perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks without fatigue.
  • Ability to judge distances accurately and communicate information succinctly.
  • Effective two‑way communication skills with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
  • Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and conclusions.
