School Social Worker’s role as liaison for home/school/community is critical in fostering mental health, school climate, and social‑emotional development. They provide interventions and collaborate with families and educators to ensure student well‑being by promoting positive environments, removing barriers to participation, and implementing evidence‑based strategies.
School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals who promote positive environments, remove barriers to participation, and implement evidence‑based support strategies to schools/students in the areas of student attendance, crisis prevention/intervention, risk assessment and supportive services, special education related services, social, emotional, and behavioral intervention/support.
Formal
Education:
Masters Degree in School Social.
Work Experience:

- Demonstrate understanding of students’ academic needs and advocate for access to and engagement with school and community resources.
- Demonstrate the ability to support students’ behavioral needs through data analysis, collaborative planning, and providing appropriate assessments and interventions at Tier II and III levels for students’ identified challenges.
- Demonstrate the ability to intervene in a crisis, assess student needs, identify supports, provide direct support/intervention, and provide post‑vention follow‑up support.
- Demonstrate ability to collaborate, consult, and intervene with students, families, and school staff to provide school‑wide/universal support and individual and/or group intervention and support to aid students’ social/emotional growth and skill development.
- Demonstrate understanding of district attendance policies and local and state attendance laws. Demonstrate ability to gather and analyze student attendance data, and work collaboratively with students and families, and provide individual and group services/interventions to address attendance‑related concerns.
- Demonstrate knowledge of community resources and collaborate with representatives from community agencies.
- Conduct home visits in the community, when necessary, to share information and support students and families in obtaining needed community resources.
- Understand the McKinney‑Vento Act as it relates to identifying and supporting students and families, and serve as the school‑based liaison.
- Provide special education related services, in accordance with individual student IEPs.
- Conduct social history interviews and prepare related documentation in support of student evaluations/re‑evaluations for Special Education.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child abuse and neglect reporting requirements and take action accordingly.
- Support students in being physically, mentally, and emotionally present and ready to learn in the classroom by reducing identified barriers to accessing their education.
- Actively engage and participate in student disciplinary meetings, i.e.;
Level 4 suspension hearings, Manifestation Determination Reviews, etc.
