The Role – Warehouse SupervisorThe Warehouse Supervisor ensures accurate, efficient, and safe material flow to support manufacturing production and electrical jobsite execution, while applying lean principles and supply chain techniques to continuously improve performance. This role is hands‑on initially and is responsible for directly performing material handling and shipping/receiving activities until company growth supports adding dedicated staff for these functions.
What You'll Do Inventory Control & Optimization- Maintain high inventory accuracy through cycle counting and root‑cause analysis
- Apply lean inventory strategies (right‑sizing, reduction of excess and obsolete stock)
- Use supply chain techniques to balance availability vs. carrying cost
- Ensure smooth flow of materials to production lines and electrical job sites
- Apply lean flow concepts (pull systems, staging, minimizing handling)
- Coordinate with project managers and production planners to anticipate demand
- Ensure rapid and accurate receipt of goods
- Minimize delays between receipt and system availability
- Utilize lean practices (standard work, visual controls, slotting optimization)
- Implement standardized kitting processes for jobs and production
- Reduce picking errors using mistake‑proofing (poka‑yoke) techniques
- Optimize pick paths and reduce wasted motion
- Lead 5S initiatives (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)
- Continuously improve layout to reduce travel time and inefficiencies
- Identify and eliminate the 8 wastes (transportation, inventory, motion, waiting, overproduction, over processing, defects, unused talent)
- Initially performs and models all core warehouse functions (receiving, picking, shipping)
- Builds standard work and processes for future team members
- Hires, trains, and develops warehouse staff as volume grows
- Shifts from hands‑on execution to leadership while maintaining accountability for results
- Drives a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- Reinforce safe work practices aligned with lean (organized, clutter‑free workspace)
- Conduct regular safety observations and improvements
- Ensure OSHA compliance
In addition to supervising and improving warehouse operations, this role will initially personally execute core warehouse functions, including:
- Receiving incoming materials
- Inspecting and verifying shipments
- Putting away inventory
- Picking and kitting job and production materials
- Packing and shipping outgoing orders
- Loading/unloading trucks and material handling
As the company grows, this role will:
- Help define and justify additional warehouse roles (receiving, shipping, material handler)
- Transition from doer to leader, delegating transactional work
- Maintain ownership of:
- Process design
- Performance metrics (EOS scorecard)
- Continuous improvement initiatives
