Sr Project Accountant

$95000 - $105000 per year | Arbutus, MD | On-site | Permanent

Compensation Based On Experience.

High growth company + great training and mentorship + perfect for someone to have high impact! A bit about us:

We’re a well-established, PE‑backed specialty contractor with decades of history in the industry and a reputation for craftsmanship that’s hard to match. Rather than leaning on subcontractors, we keep our project teams in‑house — which means quality and accountability are baked into everything we do. We’re growing, investing in new systems and technology (including an ERP and field‑service platform implementation), and building out a stronger, more senior accounting function to support that growth.

Why

join us?
  • Newly elevated role with full ownership over project accounting — not a seat you’re inheriting someone else’s structure in
  • PE‑backed growth means investment in systems, tools, and headcount, not just talk about it
  • High‑visibility partnership with project managers and operations leadership from day one
  • Broad scope — full project accounting plus exposure to general accounting and system implementation work
  • Established, stable company with decades of market credibility and a strong reputation for craftsmanship
  • In‑house delivery model (no reliance on subcontractors) means the numbers you’re tracking reflect direct operational control, not a patchwork of vendors
Job Details

This individual will play a key role in month‑end close, project accounting, WIP reporting, job cost analysis, and supporting operational teams throughout the organization. The role will also assist with ongoing system and process improvements, including ERP and field‑service platform implementation efforts, and will carry other general accounting responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • WIP reporting
  • Job cost tracking and analysis
  • Cost‑to‑complete reviews
  • Revenue recognition support
  • Partner with project managers and operations teams on customer billings, including progress billing and AIA‑style billing processes
  • Analyze project financial performance and assist with identifying cost variances and operational trends
  • Assist with implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of ERP and operational systems
  • Help improve accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and internal controls
  • Support audit requests and preparation of supporting documentation
  • Participate in ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed
  • Perform general accounting and operational accounting responsibilities in support of the broader accounting & finance team
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience required
  • Construction or project‑based accounting experience required
  • Experience with WIP schedules, job costing, and percentage‑of‑completion accounting preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required
  • Experience with construction ERP and field‑service management systems preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
  • Self‑starter with a strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership of responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a strong accounting professional who is proactive, detail‑oriented, and eager to make an impact. The ideal candidate is someone who can operate both strategically and tactically — capable of handling day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities while also helping improve systems, processes, and financial visibility across the organization.
