The Business Services Accounts Payable Specialist, under the direct supervision of the Manager of Business Services, primarily supports the accounts payable function, which includes reviewing documentation, entering payments into the online system and communicating with campus partners to ensure that payments adhere to UMBC and State of Maryland policies.

Responsibilities- Review and approve documentation submitted through the e-procurement system (PAW), including invoices against purchase orders, contracts and payment requests.
- Ensure that the related information is accurate and complete, and that the payments are appropriate in accordance with UMBC and State of Maryland policies, and then upload the documentation to the State of Maryland.
- Review and resolve items on the RStars daily error report. Work with State Auditors to resolve discrepancies with documentation, vendor addresses, wires and other banking service issues.
- Work with vendors to reconcile outstanding invoice statements and facilitate payments with departments.
- Provide customer support and training on a wide number of issues, such as the PAW system, policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Six years progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and personnel work.
Note:
Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- High-level ability to analyze and problem solve.
- At least five years performing similar functions using People Soft, e-procurement system, RStars
A background check will be required.

Pay Range 11 (minimum: $24.93 to maximum: $31.49 per hour) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
