TheOpportunity
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Designer for our Baltimore office to join the existing MEP Team.
In this role, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical and plumbing systems across a diverse range of building types and market sectors. Working closely with engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to system layouts, construction documentation, and project coordination while ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
You will collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and field personnel to help deliver high‑quality projects from concept through construction. This position offers an opportunity to expand your technical knowledge and develop expertise in building systems design within a collaborative and dynamic engineering environment.
Project types include Healthcare, Federal, Justice, K–12, Higher Education, Corporate Commercial, Retail, Multifamily & Assisted Living, Hospitality, Cultural & Historic, Data Centers, Residential, and Military/DoD facilities.
What You’ll DoAs a Mechanical Designer, you will support the development of mechanical system designs and construction documentation while working closely with engineers and project teams throughout the design and construction process. You will assist with project coordination, drafting, and design tasks while continuing to build your technical skills and industry knowledge.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the design and layout of mechanical and plumbing systems for a variety of building types and industry sectors.
- Develop mechanical system drawings and construction documentation from concept through final design phases.
- Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and related software to prepare plans, details, schedules, and construction documents.
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and field staff to support project requirements and design intent.
- Assist with engineering calculations, equipment selections, and technical analyses under the direction of senior staff.
- Support multidisciplinary coordination with electrical, structural, civil, and architectural teams.
- Participate in project meetings and assist with documentation and project deliverables.
- Review and apply applicable codes, standards, and design guidelines under guidance of senior engineers.
- Support construction‑phase activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and addressing field questions as needed.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, ABET accredited, is preferred but not required; or Associate’s Degree in a related field or 2‑year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent). Demonstrated experience without a technical degree or certification will be considered.
- 0–3 years of experience in mechanical design; internship experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, and related building systems preferred.
- Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit preferred, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is a plus.
