The City of Arcadia is seeking a professional, customer-focused Building Technician I/II to join the Development Services Department. As the public face of the Building & Safety Division, this position plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service by assisting residents, contractors, and design professionals with the building permit process, answering questions at the public counter, routing construction plans for review, and issuing permits in accordance with established procedures.
The ideal candidate is a people-oriented professional who enjoys working with the public and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Successful candidates will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to quickly learn and navigate new software applications. Experience with permit tracking software, prior Permit Technician experience, or the ability to read and interpret construction plans is beneficial, but not required.

Note Regarding Salary:
Newly hired candidates typically start at the first step of the salary range (Step
A); however, a higher step within the salary range may be negotiated based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and skillset.
Building Technician I:
Under general supervision to perform a wide variety of technical, administrative, and clerical duties in support of Building Services; to accept and conduct a preliminary review of applications for compliance with State and Federal building codes and City ordinances for permit issuance; to review required workers' compensation requirements and contractors' licenses; to perform responsible work involving the issuance of a variety of permits;
to provide information concerning building regulations; to maintain and enhance permit tracking software and technology, and to process plan check submittals for residential additions, alterations, and issue building permits for all building construction within the City.
Building Technician II:
Under general direction, to perform a wide variety of technical, administrative, and clerical duties in support of Building Services; to accept and conduct a preliminary review of applications for compliance with State and Federal building codes and City ordinances for permit issuance; to review required workers' compensation requirements and contractors' licenses; to perform responsible work involving the issuance of a variety of permits;
to provide information concerning building regulations; to maintain and enhance permit tracking software and technology, and to process plan check submittals for residential additions, alterations, and issue building permits for all building construction within the City.
Salary: $62,412.00 - $77,892.00 Annually for Building Technician I; $68,844.00 - $85,956.00 Annually for Building Technician II
