About the Position
The City of Arcadia is seeking an Engineering Intern to work within the Engineering Division of the Development Services Department. The intern will focus on transportation, infrastructure, and roadway/streets, gaining experience under the guidance of the City Engineer or Principal Civil Engineer.
The role offers daily challenges and opportunities to make a meaningful impact. Selected candidates will update maps and technical documents using drafting software, support field investigations and data collection, prepare spreadsheets, visual exhibits, and construction drawings, assist with permit processing, and provide service at the public counter.
The ideal candidate communicates clearly and professionally, grasps basic engineering concepts, and thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities- Perform a wide variety of administrative and financial assignments to assist the City department.
- Research, write, and present reports and recommendations on municipal government topics.
- Conduct studies and analyses concerning policies, procedures, financial resources, facilities, proposals, and project effectiveness.
- Collect, compile, describe, organize, analyze, interpret, and present data related to area and issues under study.
- Assist in coordinating data and materials for the department budget, including drafting budget documents and preparing revisions and calculations.
- Consult with businesses, citizens, City personnel, consultants, and governmental agencies to obtain factual information and data.
- Participate in departmental and operational audits and inspections.
- Perform clerical or technical tasks in support of City programs, answer phones, and assist the public.

- Knowledge of:
- Basic principles of municipal government management and public administration.
- Basic budgetary methods and practices.
- Research and report preparation methods and procedures.
- Modern office procedures, methods, and computer software and hardware.
- Techniques used in public relations.
- Basic principles and procedures of record keeping.
- Principles of mathematics and statistics.
- English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.
- Safe driving principles and practices.
- Skill to:
- Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software applications.
- Operate a motor vehicle safely.
- Ability to:
- Learn to interpret policies and procedures of the assigned department.
- Understand organzation and operation of the assigned department and outside agencies.
- Research, analyze, and evaluate programs, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare clear and concise reports.
- Proofread and detect errors in typing, spelling, grammar, punctuation.
- Independently prepare correspondence and memoranda.
- Plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines.

- Establish, maintain, and foster positive working relationships with individuals encountered in the course of work.
- Experience: No experience is required.
- Training: Graduation within the last 12 months or enrollment in a college or university with an emphasis in public administration or a field closely related to the area of assignment.
- License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Work in a standard office environment.
- Travel to different sites and locations as required.
- Some engineering duties may require standing, walking, crouching, stooping, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lb.
- Exposure may include cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, mechanical, and electrical hazards.
