Deputy Development Services Director
The City of Arcadia is seeking a highly motivated Deputy Development Services Director to join the Development Services Department team. The incumbent assigned to this position would assume management responsibility for the department and related activities, including direct oversight of planning, zoning, environmental review (CEQA), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), historic preservation, and business license. Additionally, they would assist in the coordination and oversight of other departmental functions and serve as second-in-command to ensure continuity of leadership across the department.

The indicated salary range will take effect on July 1, 2026. Newly hired candidates typically start at the first step of the salary range (Step
A); however, a higher step within the salary range may be negotiated based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and skillset.

Under administrative direction, the Deputy Development Services Director will direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate Development Services programs and activities including planning, zoning, environmental review (CEQA), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), historic preservation, and business license; coordinate assigned activities with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies; and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Development Services Director. They will serve as the Development Services Director in their absence.
Supervision exercised includes direct supervision over supervisory, professional, technical, and clerical staff.
Examples of important and essential duties include assuming management responsibility for Development services and activities, managing and participating in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs, continuously monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures, selecting, training, motivating, and evaluating assigned personnel, planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing the work plan for Development services and activities, managing and participating in the development and administration of the Development Services Department annual budget, serving as a liaison for Development Services with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies, providing responsible staff assistance to the Development Services Director, conducting a variety of organizational studies, investigations, and operational studies, ensuring enforcement of applicable codes on all projects and applications, reviewing zoning, variance, conditional use permit, subdivision, design review and other similar planning related applications, assuming responsibility for the preparation and implementation of the General Plan and related updates, reviewing project related environmental issues, assisting other departments in the review of environmental issues, including compliance with CEQA, serving as Primary Liaison to the Planning Commission, participating on a variety of boards and commissions, attending and participating in professional group meetings, staying abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of Development Services, responding to and resolving difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints, and responsible for the Department's Geographic Information System (GIS), and ensuring up to date technological resources and tools for efficient service provision throughout the Department.
Other job related duties include performing related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
