The Registered Nurse will be responsible for assisting with improved quality nursing care by ensuring compliance to professional and ethical practice, Nursing act, 2005 (Act No. 33 of 2005), all Health Care legislation, Basic Conditions of Employment, Policies and Procedures and Core Standards.
The Registered Nurse will also be responsible for assisting with monitoring and ensuring that nursing care and service delivery is implemented and practised within a multi-disciplinary quality assurance team. The incumbent also fulfils the role by the use of scientifically-based nursing theories and processes, treating the patients as a physical, social and spiritual individual, and by use of educational and technical means applicable to health care practice.

- Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dedicated team at Akeso, a division of Netcare Hospitals (Pty) Limited. In this role, you will provide exceptional person-centred nursing care to patients within a mental health and/or psychiatric setting, ensuring their well-being and contributing to their recovery journey.

- Job Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in accordance with established Netcare and Akeso policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards.
Conduct thorough patient assessments, including mental state examinations, and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Administer medications safely and accurately, adhering to prescribed dosages and routes, and monitor for efficacy and adverse reactions.
Observe, record, and report significant changes in patient's physical and mental health status to the medical team and other relevant healthcare professionals.
Implement therapeutic interventions, including crisis management, de-escalation techniques, and support group facilitation, as appropriate.
Educate patients and their families on their conditions, treatment plans, medication management, and coping strategies.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring all documentation is comprehensive, clear, and compliant with legal and ethical requirements.
Participate in ward rounds, case conferences, and other multidisciplinary team meetings to contribute to patient care planning and progress reviews.
Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, adhering to infection control protocols and health and safety regulations.
Supervise and mentor junior nursing staff, where applicable, and contribute to their professional development.
Adhere to the South African Nursing Council (SANC) Scope of Practice and Netcare's ethical guidelines.
--- Job Qualifications Current and valid registration as a Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) is essential.
A Diploma or Degree in Nursing is required.
A postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric Nursing Science will be a distinct advantage.
Minimum of 2-3 years of post-basic experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably within a mental health or psychiatric hospital setting.
Demonstrated experience in managing acute and chronic mental health conditions.
Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and empathetic skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Proficiency in computer literacy (Microsoft Office suite and hospital information systems).
