Job Duties

Instructional Student Assistants will provide grading outside of normal class hours in undergraduate physics courses. Course assignments may include: PHYX 106, 107, 109, 210, 211, 303, 304, 315, or other lower/upper division courses as designated by the department.

Instructional Student Assistants will assist the faculty members in teaching the lab, lecture, or activity sections of one of the following courses: PHYX 106, 107, 109, 210, 211, 303, or 315. The students will move through the classroom helping individuals and groups of students to understand the concepts, improve their problem solving skills, and master the mathematical techniques required for success in these physics courses.

Minimum Qualifications for this Classification

Knowledge and Abilities:
Instructional Student Assistants must possess the ability to learn and perform assigned work; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; and accept responsibility. Completion of specific coursework may be required in order to teach, grade or tutor a course.

Special

Qualifications:

Admission or registration as an Humboldt student is required. On-Campus or Off-Campus Work-Study Instructional Student Assistants must meet the eligibility requirements of the Federal Work-Study Program, as determined by the campus' financial aid office.

Applicants must have successfully earned a grade of B- or better in the course of assignment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Physics majors with a sophomore or higher standing will be given preference.

Tutor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Applicants must have successfully completed the introductory calculus based physics sequence (PHYX 109, 210 and 211) with a course grade of a B or better, and who have interest in education. For PHYX 315 - applicants must have completed the course previously with a grade of a B or better to be considered for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Physics majors will be given preference.
