Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Campus Recreation, the Budget Coordinator manages the financial operations of the Athletics Department. Responsibilities include overseeing budget development, financial analysis, operational support, and compliance with CSU/NCAA/Conference regulations. The role serves as a key advisor on fiscal stewardship, resource allocation, and budgeting process improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee development, administration, monitoring, and reconciliation of Athletics Department budgets, including state, IRA, trust, foundation, and special project funds (15%).
  • Perform financial analysis related to revenue projections, expenditures, position control, labor distribution, and cash flow management (15%).
  • Serve as primary liaison with the University Business Office (UBO) for budget reports, financial forecasts, variance analyses, and operational summaries (15%).
  • Facilitate operational support for all travel requests and reconciliation in Concur (15%).
  • Analyze budget trends, provide recommendations for fiscal planning, resource allocation, and cost containment; monitor budget performance and identify opportunities for improvement (15%).
  • Support annual budget development and year‑end financial close activities including EADA and NCAA AUP processes (10%).
  • Perform general administrative functions (10%).
  • Other duties as assigned (5%).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of financial, budgetary, and accounting principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of public finance, personnel fiscal management, and cash‑flow management.
  • Working knowledge of research techniques and statistical principles.
  • General knowledge of position control and budgetary alignment.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial systems, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate and interpret data and develop sound conclusions.
  • Ability to define problem areas, collect data, perform preliminary analyses, make recommendations, and prepare clear, concise analytical comments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to advise managers, staff, and faculty on budgeting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lead and train others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and financial management systems.
Minimum Qualifications

Equivalently, a bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Advanced or substitute experience may be considered on a year‑for‑year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in NCAA Division I, II, or III athletics.
  • Experience with university financial systems, budget management, or athletics operations.
  • Knowledge of CSU policies and procedures.

Salary Range: CSU Classification $5,178–$7,543 per month (Step 1–20). Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,178–$5,717 per month (Step 1–6). Final salary placement is commensurate with experience, internal equity, and budget considerations.
