Part Time Grocery Clerk - BU

Responsibilities

• Provide an exceptional shopping experience and friendly, welcoming environment for all members, customers, and co-workers.
• Greet and engage customers throughout the store; model prompt, helpful, attentive service in accordance with the Co-op’s standards.
• Maintain awareness of promotions and advertisements to share information with customers.
• Assist customers in finding desired products, answering questions about quality, uses, location, in-store promotions, and educational materials.
• Seek opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience.
• Assist customers with bagging, unloading/loading items into carts/baskets, and carry out assistance if needed.
• Maintain a calm, friendly, professional demeanor with all customers and co-workers in all situations.
• Investigate and respond to customer inquiries promptly; elevate issues to supervisor as needed.
• Follow stocking, rotation, and facing procedures to merchandise and stock shelves/cases with fresh, high-quality product; hang ‘out of stock’ signs where shelf is empty.
• Receive product deliveries, ensure order and invoice accuracy; process invoices and obtain credits per supervisor instructions.
• Alert supervisor to close-dated or unsatisfactory product; record as spoilage.
• Learn to place orders from suppliers; place orders as assigned.
• Maintain department appearance and cleanliness; regularly face shelves, display sales tags, clean shelves, displays, and coolers.
• Maintain backstock and work area cleanliness; sweep and mop floors; properly store and rotate inventory.
• Assist in new employee training through shadowing and orientation.
• Participate in cross-training and learn functions of other positions.
• Answer phones, route calls, and take messages as needed.
• Organize time efficiently, prioritize, maintain focus, and stay productive.
• Achieve assigned goals and expected results for the department.
• Assist in overall store cleanliness, including retrieving carts, cleaning sidewalks, traffic areas, spill cleanup, dusting, wiping dining tables, and restocking bathrooms.
• Become familiar with all products and store locations.
• Adhere to cash handling policies; maintain knowledge of register functions.
• Develop knowledge of membership structure; inform customers of benefits.
• Check mailbox and email for company communications and posted memos.
• Attend and participate in meetings and trainings.
• Assist in inventory counts, store-wide cleaning, and perform other duties as assigned.

• Maintain a safe work environment per procedures, Safety Manual, and regulations.
• Use required PPE; ensure safe lifting and ergonomics.
• Adhere to sanitation and safe food handling procedures per California Health and Safety Code.

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Bend, stoop, reach, and lift loads up to 50 lb, not exceeding 75 lb.
• Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.

Fast-paced retail floor environment. May work near moving equipment, in high or low conditions, in moderate to loud noise environments, and occasional travel within Arcata and Eureka.

This position works a varied schedule that may include early, late, and/or weekend shifts with occasional overtime. Reliable punctuality and attendance are essential.
