The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring products meet SIMONA America Industries' quality standards through inspection, testing, documentation, and process verification. This position will work to identify quality concerns, investigate nonconforming material, support continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain accurate quality records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Production Quality Verification- Perform routine quality inspections on all operating sheet extrusion lines throughout each shift.
- Verify products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.
- Conduct in-process inspections and finished product evaluations.
- Perform dimensional, visual, and physical property inspections.
- Notify operators, supervisors, and production leadership of quality concerns requiring immediate attention.
- Document inspection results accurately.
Perform laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures, including but not limited to:
- Thickness verification
- Visual inspections
- Additional product-specific testing as required
- Maintain testing equipment and ensure calibration requirements are followed.
- Perform inspections of weld rod products.
- Complete required testing and documentation.
- Organize laboratory samples and retain records.
Assist with the identification and investigation of nonconforming material by:
- Reviewing production documentation
- Verifying process sheets
- Assisting with material traceability
- Working with Materials to review raw material consumption
- Reviewing blender (Maguire) settings and records
- Inspecting inventory with Shipping as required
- Supporting disposition of nonconforming product
- Assist in investigations of customer complaints.
- Review production records and inspection reports.
- Gather samples and supporting documentation.
- Assist with root cause investigations.
- Participate in corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Review production documentation for completeness and accuracy, including:
- Production packets
- Quality inspection reports
- Process sheets
- Test reports
- Lot traceability documentation
- Ensure required documentation is complete before closing production orders.
- Maintain electronic and paper quality records.
- Update production quantities as necessary within SAP.
- Verify production records match manufacturing output.
- Assist with quality-related data entry and reporting.
- Verify product specifications.
- Review customer requirements.
- Ensure all required approvals are completed prior to production release.
- Perform color matching using laboratory equipment.
- Investigate color-related quality concerns.
- Support Production during color adjustments and changeovers.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with root cause analysis.
- Recommend quality improvements.
- Support implementation of corrective actions.
- Assist during internal and external audits.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all 6S standards.
- Properly maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Wear required PPE.
- Participate in safety training and initiatives.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Quality, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of manufacturing or quality experience preferred.
- Experience in plastics manufacturing is a plus.
- Basic understanding of quality systems and inspection techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications, drawings, and work instructions.
- Experience using measuring equipment such as:
- Calipers
- Micrometers
- Thickness gauges
- Measuring tapes
- Basic understanding of laboratory testing.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with SAP or ERP systems preferred.
- Ability to learn quality software and reporting systems.
