This role will have direct ownership of tariff exposure and cost mitigation decision making. The candidate should be comfortable and have demonstrated experience in owning tariff and duty impact.
Import Operations & Documentation- Prepare and review import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, country-of-origin details, and product specifications.
- Verify Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and maintain accurate product coding in the ERP system.
- Ensure duty, tariff, and fee calculations (including Section 301/232, MPF, HMF) are accurate and consistently applied.
- Review customs broker entry filings for accuracy and compliance prior to and after submission.
- Monitor shipments under customs holds, exams, and releases; coordinate with brokers and freight forwarders to resolve delays.
- Maintain all customs compliance records in accordance with CBP retention requirements.
- Track and interpret regulatory updates from CBP, BIS, USTR, USITC, and other relevant agencies.
- Conduct internal audits of entries, classifications, and documentation; support any corrective actions.
- Assist with responses to CBP Requests for Information.
- Support restricted-party screening, export-control checks, and import-licensing requirements when applicable.
- SOP development and continuous improvement responsibilities for trade compliance workflow.
- Collect required compliance documentation from suppliers, including COO statements, FTA certificates, and material declarations.
- Evaluate product origin and production details to determine free-trade agreement (FTA) eligibility.
- Provide guidance to internal teams on customs requirements, tariff impacts, and compliance considerations.
- Review new products for importability, labeling, COO marking, and classification requirements.
- Submit new and existing products to Customs for classification rulings.
- Analyze duty and tariff impacts and communicate cost changes to purchasing and finance/item administration.
- Support duty-recovery processes such as drawback claims, protests, or post-summary corrections.
- Prepare periodic reports on duty spend, classification updates, and compliance metrics.
- Assist with CTPAT documentation and compliance activities
- Support supply-chain changes that may affect tariffs, sourcing, or classification.
Maintain accurate data within SAP or other ERP systems related to trade compliance.
