Description

The Logistics Lead is responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily operations of the Logistics Department, ensuring efficient movement of inbound and outbound shipments while maintaining compliance with company policies, transportation regulations, and trade requirements. This position serves as the primary backup to the Logistics Manager and provides day-to-day leadership, employee support, training, and operational decision-making.

The Logistics Lead oversees transportation activities including parcel, LTL, truckload, air, ocean, import operations, customs compliance coordination, freight auditing, carrier performance management, and logistics process improvements. The role is responsible for maintaining service levels, supporting cost reduction initiatives, and ensuring continuity of operations during manager absences.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred in Business, Logistics, or similar discipline.
- 4-6 years' experience in similar role.

Leadership & Supervision

  • Assist Team members with day-to-day processes / job functions.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to Logistics team members.
  • Coordinate work assignments and prioritize departmental workload.
  • Monitor employee productivity, quality, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Assist in employee onboarding, training, and cross-training initiatives.
  • Support performance management activities, coaching, and development discussions.
  • Serve as acting department leader during Logistics Manager absences.
  • Assist with emergency response situations, transportation disruptions, and operational escalations.

Transportation & Logistics Operations

  • Oversee daily inbound and outbound transportation activities.
  • Monitor domestic and international shipments to ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordinate parcel, LTL, truckload, intercompany transfers, air freight, ocean freight, and export shipments.
  • Support freight claim management and shipment exception resolution.
  • Ensure carrier route guides and transportation procedures are followed.
  • Review transportation metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.

Trade Compliance & Import Operations

  • Support customs compliance processes and documentation accuracy.
  • Assist with HTS classification management and tariff monitoring.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers and freight forwarders regarding shipment issues.
  • Support audits related to customs entries, freight invoices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain awareness of changing import, export, and transportation regulations.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and automation.
  • Support implementation of new logistics technologies and systems.
  • Assist with standard operating procedure development and maintenance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to transportation, customs, and logistics processes.
  • Maintain relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and logistics service providers.
  • Monitor carrier performance, service failures, and corrective actions.
  • Participate in transportation bid processes and carrier evaluations.
  • Assist in negotiating service improvements and cost-saving opportunities.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Track and report logistics key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Analyze transportation spend, freight claims, delivery performance, and service metrics.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for management review.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and transportation regulations.
  • Support CTPAT, customs compliance, and supply chain security initiatives when applicable.
  • Promote a safe working environment and adherence to company safety standards.
  • Ensure required documentation is completed accurately and retained appropriately.
