About the roleThe Global Electrostatics Engineer will serve as an expert resource advising manufacturing and development engineers across Boston Scientific facilities in the areas of electrostatic discharge (ESD) (safe handling for electronics and for static sensitive chemical handling) and electrostatic attraction (ESA) (particle contamination control). The Global Electrostatics Engineer works collaboratively with different functions (Operations, R&D, Supplier Management, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Facilities, Microbiology, etc.)
to find practical solutions. This important position is part of the Global R&D department and works across all divisions and geographies.
At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring a minimum of 3 days in-office per week from our Arden Hills, Maple Grove, MN. Galway, Ireland and Coyol, Heredia, Cartago, Costa Rica. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time.
Your responsibilities will include- Serve as BSC’s global electrostatics expert for
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) – safe handling for sensitive electronics
- Electrostatic Attraction (ESA) / FM reduction for in-process and final pack areas in our clean rooms
- Static sensitive chemical handling – safe handling for flammable chemicals
- Visits BSC production areas to consult about ESC and ESA issues
- Maintains a working knowledge of cleanroom equipment and suppliers used at BSC used to mitigate electrostatics issues.
- Chairs BSC’s Global ESD Team and hosts monthly meetings
- Is an active member of BSC’s Work Environments Community of Practice
- Establishes relationships with External Standards Organizations and participates in global standards development and advocacy.
- Leads education efforts and mentoring in utilization of external standards.
- Internal presentations (ESD, ESA, FM Reduction)
- External presentation opportunities
- Fields requests from all global teams to make decisions on all things electrostatic in nature. (Standards, Materials, Equipment, Electrostatics theory, Particle contamination)
- Serves as a teacher and mentor to other Boston Scientific engineers
- 4-year degree in Engineering in a field applicable to the medical device industry
- Work experience:
7+ Years with BS, 5+ Years with MS - Understanding electrostatics in the production (Electrostatic attraction, electrostatic discharge, static safety)
- Experience creating documents within a quality system (SOP’s, WI’s, PM’s)
- Experience with clean room practices
- Collaborative, problem solver
- Strong networker
- Understanding electrostatics in the production in medical devices
- Experience applying international standards to manufacturing environment
