Job Summary:Overland is seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Asphalt Roadway Density Technician to perform field compaction (density) testing on asphalt paving projects. This role requires a TxDOT 1B Asphalt Certification (training available for strong candidates) and includes testing and documentation in accordance with both TxDOT and ODOT specifications. This position also supports roadway traffic control operations. If not already certified, Overland will provide training for the ATSSA Traffic Control Technician certification.
Key Responsibilities /Essential Functions:
- Perform asphalt field density testing utilizing a nuclear gauge or approved alternative methods following TxDOT 1B procedures for Texas projects and ODOT asphalt testing specifications for Oklahoma projects.
- Document, log, and report daily density results including stationing, location, method, equipment , and compliance notes.
- Communicate test results promptly to paving foremen, superintendents, project managers, and QC leadership.
- Verify compliance with all applicable agency specifications (TxDOT, ODOT), project requirements, and Overland internal quality standards.
- Operate, maintain, and properly secure nuclear density gauges and supporting QC equipment.
- Assist with the setup, monitoring, and removal of temporary traffic control, including flagging and device placement.
- Support rolling pattern evaluations and compaction adjustments as needed.
- Maintain detailed and accurate field documentation for both Texas and Oklahoma job requirements.
- Work safely and comply with all Overland, TxDOT, and ODOT safety procedures.
- Assist with asphalt production testing as needed.
- Perform additional duties on paving sites as assigned.
- Required:
TxDOT 1B Asphalt Certification (Training may be provided for the right candidate.) - Experience with roadway density testing or asphalt quality control preferred.
- Understanding of TxDOT and/or ODOT hot mix asphalt testing procedures.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with field personnel and supervisors.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working outdoors in extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
- Capable of climbing on and off heavy equipment safely.
- Traveling within Oklahoma and North Texas is required. Per diem will be provided for jobs outside the hired working area.
