Job DescriptionThe Operations Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance preparation of wells, processing units, and associated facilities. This role supports oil, gas, and water separation systems, utilities, and related production equipment. The position plays a key role in facility startup activities, process optimization, work permitting, and safe work execution.
The ideal candidate has experience in production operations and new facility startup, demonstrates strong safety awareness, and can work independently while supporting overall team objectives.
Responsibilities- Maintain a strong commitment to personal and team safety; follow and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
- Serve as the primary operations contact for assigned facilities.
- Understand process flow, basic process chemistry, equipment line-ups, and safety systems including isolation points.
- Monitor and optimize processes using control systems, schematics, and production data.
- Conduct routine field inspections using sight, sound, touch, and smell to ensure proper equipment operation.
- Issue Safe Work Permits and assess chemical, personnel, and process safety risks.
- Perform gas testing to support safe maintenance activities.
- Monitor production parameters including tank levels, meters, differential pressure, injection rates, and product samples.
- Identify and address operational issues such as leaks, freezing, overheating, or abnormal conditions.
- Adjust temperature, pressure, flow, and other parameters to maintain product specifications.
- Record and maintain accurate production and gauge data, noting causes for changes in output.
- Coordinate oil sales and water hauling activities as needed.
- Inspect valve positions and ensure correct equipment configuration.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance such as lubrication, filter changes, tightening fittings, and minor repairs.
- Maintain field vehicles and equipment in good working condition.
- Communicate process conditions and operational updates to supervision.
- Conduct seasonal equipment preparation to ensure optimal performance.
- Utilize handheld and electronic monitoring devices to evaluate field performance.
- Inspect and maintain safety equipment including relief devices, fire protection systems, and breathing apparatus.
- Support environmental compliance by minimizing emissions, spills, and operational impacts.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain reliable attendance and support team objectives.
- Work rotating shifts and respond to call-outs as required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; trade school certification or college coursework preferred.
- Previous experience in oil and gas production operations or related field preferred.
- Experience with oil, gas, and water separation equipment and surface production systems.
- Familiarity with process monitoring tools and electronic field equipment.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on production equipment.
- Working knowledge of work permitting systems and safe work practices.
- Strong computer skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts and be available for call-out.
- Physically able to lift 50+ pounds and climb ladders or stairways.
- Ability to wear and use SCBA and other required safety equipment.
Pay: $36-$38 per hour
