Heavy Equipment Operator, Maintenance Worker, General Labor, Construction Labor & Trades
Duties include operation and maintenance of equipment, assisting line crews with digging ditches, pot‑holing, hoisting material, and working with backhoes and other utility equipment. Additional duties involve maintaining utilities, back filling, and serving as an on‑call, after‑hours and weekend worker.
Responsibilities- Operates trucks of various sizes and weights to load, haul, and unload equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Operates construction or power equipment such as mechanized broom, backhoe, man‑lift, dump truck, snowplow, front‑end loader, hydraulic excavators, skid steers, and jetter truck.
- Operates jackhammers, mowers, saws and other small equipment and tools to maintain utility systems.
- Works with and assists line crews in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and related tasks using backhoes or front‑end loaders.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, reports defects or repairs to the supervisor, and cleans equipment.
- Assists in installing and maintaining traffic control devices.
- Plows snow and applies salts to roads following departmental policy.
- Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Oklahoma driver license
- Ability to obtain a CDL commercial driver license within 12 months
- Ability to obtain a Class D Water Works Operator license within 12 months
- Maintain physical condition suitable for standing, walking, bending, sitting, pushing, and pulling over extended periods.
- Perform heavy manual labor.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Basic computer knowledge and record‑keeping skills.
- Understand occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Job Requirements
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, and use hands for extended periods. Requires lifting up to 25 pounds while standing and up to 50 pounds while walking. Must work outdoors, handle moderate‑high noise levels, and have normal vision with or without corrective lenses. Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, taste, and smell is required. No tasks exceed the Under 1/3 effort category for any listed physical activity.

This job is classified as a “safety sensitive” position under U.S. Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act, and Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. The position requires drug and alcohol testing, including random testing in addition to scheduled tests. Marijuana is included in the screening panel, and possession of a medical marijuana license does not exempt a worker from testing or its consequences.
