We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join a growing organization in the greater Philadelphia area.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of real estate properties
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Review monthly work papers, journal entries, and bank reconciliations prepared by the accounting team.
- Perform and review allocations of shared corporate expenses across multiple properties.
- Review and reconcile corporate credit card activity and related expense allocations.
- Monitor real estate taxes, insurance, replacement reserves, and other property-level financial obligations.
- Coordinate with Human Resources to review, process, and record payroll activity.
- Review vendor payments to ensure appropriate authorization and accounting treatment.
- Assist with property and investment fund distributions.
- Support quarterly property valuation processes.
- Prepare and review audited property-level financial statements while coordinating with external auditors.
- Mentor, develop, and oversee members of the accounting and accounts payable teams.
- Help strengthen internal controls, improve accounting processes, and support implementation of new technologies.
- Partner closely with Asset Management and Property Management teams by providing financial analysis and operational support.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive real estate accounting experience
. - Public accounting experience is preferred.
- Fund accounting experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Experience with Yardi and Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
- Solid understanding of real estate operations, property management, and investment accounting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- High-visibility role partnering directly with executive leadership.
- Broad exposure to property accounting, corporate accounting, and investment fund reporting.
