Friends’ Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 819 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood.

The Friends’ Central Upper School (grades 9-12) seeks a dedicated, enthusiastic teacher of Spanish & French for a long term substitute position beginning November 11, 2026 through January 6, 2027. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in a related field, and interest in working with Upper School students.
In addition to having an educational background in teaching languages, we seek someone who will:
- Be an enthusiastic teacher and supportive guide for Upper School-aged students
- Continue to develop and coordinate our world language curricula with other faculty
- Determine learning goals and design coherent instruction and assessment accordingly
- Have the mindset and ability to work in partnership with parents
- Possess excellent communication skills, including through writing
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Enhance the School’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity as outlined in our Diversity Statement
- Understand and be committed to the School’s Quaker values and mission
- Be an engaged member of the Friends’ Central faculty and wider community
Upper School faculty are also expected to perform supervisory duties (study hall, lunch, etc.) and assist with other programmatic activities that are part of the school day.
Qualifications- Fluency in Spanish
- Fluency in French
- Ability to teach the following course:
French III Adv., Spanish Literature, and Latino Immigrant Experience. - Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, French or related field
Physical demands include dexterity for office machines and supply operation including but not limited to writing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and printers. Stooping, bending, reaching and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
