POSITION SUMMARY

The Speech Pathologist provides speech and language therapy to students with special language needs and is responsible for creating an educational atmosphere that enables students to flourish intellectually, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and psychologically. This person is charged with designing and implementing an instructional program that maximizes learning experiences for students with special needs through individualized speech‑language therapy, documentation of progress, addressing specific student needs, and ensuring a safe, optimal learning environment.

PRIMARY

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare thorough and complete lesson plans and instruct students according to curriculum and individual needs.
  • Assess student needs and performance; develop, implement, and evaluate speech therapy sessions, including scheduled activities and materials. Modify instruction to meet each child's needs.
  • Implement a developmentally appropriate integrated curriculum design that emphasizes meaningful content connections.
  • Establish a positive learning environment, deliver and respond to differentiated instruction that meets students' needs.
  • Use classroom management techniques to maintain organization, orderliness, student safety, and productivity.
  • Plan instruction and employ techniques to encourage and motivate students.
  • Use data to inform program effectiveness and student success. Document progress on student goals and share with families at least quarterly.
  • Use technology to enhance learning.
  • Promote positive relations with parents through ongoing communication and conferences.
  • Ensure parents and students are informed of classroom evaluation methods.
  • Inform parents of student progress and school activities; advise them on instructional methods that may assist students.
  • Participate as a member of an instructional team to develop and promote learning activities built on an integrated continuum curriculum aligned with district and school objectives.
  • Collaborate with specialists and general and special education teachers as needed to support students.
  • Participate in meetings, including professional learning communities, to discuss, share evaluation results, problems, success stories, and plan solutions to improve student achievement.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and community agencies to improve student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum.
  • Screen and evaluate students with language difficulties or delayed development.
  • Provide speech and language services in accordance with the student’s IEP.
  • Participate as part of the multi-disciplinary team in reviewing qualifications of students with speech and language needs or delayed development.
  • Prepare all local, state, and federal reports associated with the student caseload.
  • Act as a resource on speech and language issues for teachers, parents, and administration.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit, school, and district.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of using email, managing files, recording and reporting grades electronically, and using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge and command of subject‑specific content and learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
  • Knowledge of Special Education Laws.
  • Knowledge of the needs of secondary or elementary school‑aged students.
  • Knowledge of special education principles, theories, testing, methods, and proven methods of maximizing educational experiences for students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Ability to develop and implement IEPs.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate student progress and course curriculum.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate plans.
  • Ability to manage the classroom.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and observe and listen to others.
  • Ability to evaluate written materials, including assignments and tests.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate 21st century technology.
  • Skill in promoting learning and ensuring safety.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Desired:
    Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited college/university.
  • Valid Arizona Speech and Language Pathology certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
SALARY

$75,796.95 - $83,036.40 (Stipend $2000.00 for CCC - SLP) Based on current hiring schedule

*** 9 Month Contracted Position - Regular Position
