THE ROLE
The Superintendent, Underground Development & Construction functions as the Construction Manager for major underground mining and infrastructure scopes and is critical to the successful delivery of the Project. The role is responsible for facilitating the safe, efficient, and timely execution of well‑planned work through comprehensive oversight of contractor design, engineering, planning, management, and construction activities. This role works closely with contractors and internal stakeholders;
oversees all phases of underground development and construction activities, including Shaft Surface Construction, Shaft Sinking, Headframe Changeover, Shaft Equipping, Shaft Station Construction and Development Breakouts, Underground Lateral Development, and Underground Infrastructure Construction.
The role is accountable for ensuring contractors execute work in alignment with project objectives, safety expectations, technical requirements, and schedule commitments. Responsibilities include oversight of design reviews, construction work package planning, contractor staffing and resourcing, schedule development and progress monitoring, procurement and material tracking, readiness verification, risk assessments, and validation of critical controls. This role is based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Maintain awareness of Project Fatal Risks and ensure the presence of Critical Controls across all Underground Development & Construction work fronts;
- Monitor and report on Safety Performance for all work packages;
- Engage with Health, Safety and Security and Environment & Permitting to address any undesirable trends and provide visible leadership in all aspects of Critical Risk Management and Environmental Stewardship;
- Monitor contractor quality control activities and arrange appropriate quality assurance surveillance and testing for ongoing and completed work;
- Monitor field installation work and changes to ensure conformity with governing regulations and project environmental and community commitments;
- Ensure project materials and workmanship meets the project quality standards and design requirements;

32 Engineering and external consultants as required; - Ensure compliance with schedule and budget through oversight of Contractor compliance to Contractor and South
32 Execution plans proactively communicating identified issues and concerns; - Identify technical issues or engineering conflicts and Contractor and South
32 Teams to resolve conflicts and minimize impact to Project; - Coordination of the overall construction effort to ensure bottlenecks are expeditiously resolved;
- Insist on proper use project document control processes;
- Seek out imminent delay, disruption, or interference in Contractors’ Work and advise Package Manager of mitigation to avoid occurrence;
- Effectively communicate support needs to build relationships with and engage internal stakeholders;
- Communicate and collaborate with peer‑level roles to resolve conflicts and minimize or eliminate impacts to Project;
- Prepare and deliver daily and weekly reports and presentations in conformity with the internal package management processes;
