Examples of Duties

Under supervision, assists in the organization and instruction of recreational groups and classes within the various bureaus of the Division of Recreation. Assists supervisors as well as physical and recreation directors in an all-inclusive city-wide leisure time program and performs related duties as required. Organizes and conducts classes in handicrafts, folk dancing, nature lore, rhythm bands, needle craft, ceramics, poster making, sandcraft, games of high and low organization, story telling, community singing, dramatics, metalcraft, photography, music, leathercraft, and other leisure time and hobby activities.

Assists in teaching special skills, in the training of volunteer leaders, playground director, and leaders, organized neighborhood groups, and others. Assists at social parties, canteens, exhibits, open house programs, picnics, tournaments, meets, forums, and other gatherings. Assists other members of the staff as required. Keeps records and makes routine and special reports. Coordinates activities with a general recreation program. Attends staff meetings as required.

Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PERMANENT PART TIME – A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.
  • Sports – Experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various sports and other related programs is preferred.
  • Arts – Experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various visual art classes is preferred.
  • Camp – Experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various organized programs, outdoor programs preferred.
  • Computer – Experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various activities, computers and other programs is preferred.
  • Volunteer experience will be considered.
Supplemental Information Additional Duties/Responsibilities

Monitors playground staff. Provides transportation to and from programs and activities. Keeps records and makes routine and special reports. Attend staff meetings as required. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience (paid or volunteer preferred).
