Assistant Professor of Biology (Microbiologist)

Tenure‑track faculty (65% teaching, 30% research, 5% service, 9‑month term)
This full‑time, nine‑month position focuses on teaching, research, and service in the Life, Earth & Environmental Sciences Department. Responsibilities include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology, conducting a dynamic research program with grant acquisition, and providing service to the university and community.
Responsibilities- Teach selected undergraduate and graduate courses such as General Biology, Microbiology, and Applied Microbiology; develop new courses as needed.
- Develop a dynamic research program, attract and secure extramural funding, and allow undergraduate and graduate student participation.
- Conduct professional service for the institution, academic field, and community.
- Recruit students for undergraduate and graduate programs in Life, Earth & Environmental Sciences.
- Advise students on degree plans, course scheduling, and academic matters, including pre‑medical and other pre‑professional programs.
- Earned Ph.D. in Biology or a related area from an accredited institution; ABD will not be considered.
- Demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching related courses.
- Willingness to teach 9 adjusted contact hours (ACH) per semester.
- Competency in research, evidenced by publications in genuine peer‑reviewed journals.
- Experience in seeking/obtaining funding with documentation of awards and amounts.
- Excellent quantitative, computer, written, and oral communication skills.
- Experience in instruction and mentoring of student research.
- Interest and ability to teach general biology and microbiology.
- Willingness to take a lead position in directing a pre‑medical or pre‑healthcare program preparing students for professional schools.
- Demonstrated experience in seeking/obtaining extramural funding.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and teamwork skills.
- Experience developing collaborative research with other scientists, research centers, and agencies.
