Join the Tohono O'odham Community College team as an Math Tutor
TOCC is seeking a full-time Math Tutor for the Library Department. This is a non‑exempt position with a hiring range of $42,956 to $47,000 annually.
What you will doAs an Math Tutor, you will assist students in various subjects with a math focus. Ninety‑five percent of your time will be spent on one‑on‑one or small‑group tutoring sessions. Your main duties will include:
- Attending all assigned class meetings, taking notes, and completing assigned readings.
- Planning and facilitating weekly study sessions using collaborative learning methods.
- Assisting students with study skills, basic concepts, specific problems, and test preparation.
- Providing feedback to faculty on concepts that students are having a difficult time understanding.
- Monitoring student progress in EdReady and promoting attendance at tutoring sessions.
- Abiding by the college's personnel policies, with special attention to FERPA guidelines.
- You should have a good understanding of tutoring best practices and how students learn. You must be capable of explaining complex concepts in multiple ways and have successfully completed college courses in the subject you will be tutoring with a grade of B or better.
- You must have clear and effective verbal and written communication skills. You should be able to work well in a group, respond effectively in positive or negative situations, and listen for clarification.
- You must model appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors, show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and be consistently on time for work.
- You should also be able to work with a supportive attitude toward diverse learners.
- You must have good time management skills, meet all deadlines, and follow instructions from your supervisor.
- You should demonstrate knowledge of technology such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Canvas.
- A Bachelor's Degree in a related area.
- Successful completion of college courses in the subject to be tutored with a grade of B or better.
- Tutoring experience.
- The ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
- The ability to speak and understand the O'odham and/or Spanish languages.
- Knowledge and understanding of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.
The work schedule is up to 40 hours per week, with times that vary depending on course scheduling.
