Location: Gold Canyon
Job Summary
The Communication department is seeking applications for Adjunct Instructors for Basic Public Speaking. This course introduces students to the application of communication theory and practice to public speaking, with emphasis on audience analysis, speaker delivery, ethics of communication, and speech organizational techniques to develop students’ speaking abilities.
Responsibilities- Teach 3–6 credits per semester on campus between 8am and 5pm.
- Provide classroom instruction for Basic Public Speaking courses.
- Conduct each class according to the approved syllabus.
- Utilize the approved textbook and/or other instructional materials as approved.
- Be fully prepared and on time.
- Utilize LMS following university policies and procedures.
- Maintain course grades in LMS and submit grades at the applicable times.
- Support students by engaging them in class, answering questions in a timely manner, and referring them for additional support when necessary.
- Treat students and colleagues with respect and understanding of differences.
- Assist in the development of curriculum as appropriate.
- Complete annual mandatory compliance training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department supervisor.
- Master’s degree in Communication or a related field and a minimum of 18 graduate hours in speech or oral communications.
- Experience teaching public speaking.
- Demonstrated evidence of professional growth through participation in continuing education and related activities.
- Proficiency with teaching technologies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- MA in Speech, Oral Communication, Oratory, Persuasion Forensics, or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours.
- Post‑secondary teaching experience.
- Experience in student engagement techniques.
