Location: Window Rock
Title: Teacher – Special Education – Elementary
Location: Chee Dodge Elementary School
Contract Length: 194 Days
Hours per day: 7.5 hours
Salary range: $59,984.00 – $84,026.00 (annual equivalent)
School Year: 2025‑2026
Responsibilities- Plan curriculum and prepare lessons and materials tailored to individual student needs, abilities, teaming levels, and limitations to meet Individualized Educational Program (IEP) goals and objectives.
- Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team of administrators, school personnel, students, and families, implementing educational plans developed by specialists and advocating for students.
- Determine parents’ ability to understand and apply therapeutic and behavior modification techniques, and formulate teaching plans addressing parents’ social and emotional needs.
- Instruct students and develop individual teaching plans covering self‑help, motor, social, cognitive, and language skills for parents to implement at home.
- Revise teaching plans to align with a child’s rate of development when necessary.
- Counsel parents to provide social and emotional support, and refer parents and children to social service agencies and facilities for additional services and financial assistance.
- Maintain confidential individual records for appropriate referrals and service continuity, complying with Federal, State, and District regulations and policies.
- Maintain professional skills through consultations, in‑service activities, and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Maintain an awareness and respect for the cultural diversity of students and families, assisting staff in understanding these variations during planning.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Deliver educational services to children who are homebound due to health limitations or distance from school.
- Travel daily from site to site, and from home to home.
- Instruct students and teachers in communication methods such as sign language, finger spelling, and speed cues.
- Encourage students to participate in verbal communication and classroom learning experiences to ensure comprehension of subject matter, development of social skills, and ability to communicate in daily living situations.
- Principles and practices of early childhood development and exceptional learning.
- Local and state educational structure and organization.
- How cultural diversity concepts relate to an understanding of individuality.
- Educational foundations of a school district, including organization, administration, funding resources, and record keeping.
- Current state and federal legislation, and district policies regarding identification, evaluation, and placement procedures for children with disabilities.
- Cultural diversities of the local area and traditional Native American beliefs of students and families.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement corrective educational plans; interact effectively with educational professionals in the district.
- Use formal assessment instruments, procedures, and techniques for evaluation and remediation of learning disorders.
- Interpret data from statistical analysis, testing materials, and results; provide counseling and interpersonal relations support.
- Maintain confidential records of students.
- Respect cultural diversities and Native American traditional beliefs and practices of students and families.
- Interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Experience: One year of related work experience in a school setting is desirable.
- Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Licensure & Certificates: Applicants must hold a BA degree and have or be able to obtain a New Mexico teaching license.
- On‑site attendance is mandatory.
- Use strength to lift items as required.
- Sit, stand, and walk for required periods of time.
- Speak and hear; communicate effectively in English;
