We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable individual to join our team as a Hualapai Language / Cultural Teacher. In this role, you will be responsible for teaching Hualapai language, sharing the history, traditions, and customs of the Hualapai people with students, teachers, and community members. Your passion for Hualapai culture and commitment to preserving and promoting it will be instrumental in educating and inspiring others.
Responsibilities- Develop curriculum and teaching materials that reflect Hualapai history, traditions, and language
- Design and deliver engaging lessons and activities that immerse students in Hualapai culture
- Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to integrate cultural teachings into the educational program
- Organize and participate in cultural events, field trips, and community outreach activities
- Serve as a resource for students, teachers, and community members seeking information about Hualapai culture
- Stay informed about current research and best practices in Indigenous education and incorporate relevant information into teaching practices
- Foster a sense of pride and connection to Hualapai culture among students
- In-depth knowledge of Hualapai language, history, traditions, and customs
- Experience teaching language, Indigenous studies, or cultural education
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people
- Dedication to preserving and promoting Hualapai culture
- Experience in education and indigenous studies, or a related field preferred
Minimum conversational proficiency in Hualapai language. Reading and writing proficiency preferred.
ExperienceSuccessful prior work experience in similar environment to schools preferred.
Physical and Mental DemandsWorks in standard office and school building environments.
Transportation / LicensingMotor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. MUST possess / be able to obtain an IVPP DPS card.
FLSA StatusExempt
Benefits- Full wage package, including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, ASRS retirement.
- Starting salary is $45,000 non-certified; if applicant holds an Arizona Teaching credential, will be placed on the District Salary Schedule for certified teachers.
