Teaching the Word of God
Our pastor's primary responsibility is to teach the Word of God. The Bible emphasizes the importance of the pastor being a capable and faithful teacher of the Scriptures (2 Timothy 2:15).
Preparing People for MinistryThe pastor should be responsible for equipping the congregants for ministry. Ephesians 4:11-12 states that pastors are given to the church to "equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ." The pastor should provide opportunities for the congregation to serve and minister to others.
Providing Pastoral CareThe pastor should be responsible for providing pastoral care to the congregation. Pastoral care includes counseling, comforting, and providing guidance to individuals in times of need.
Lead by ExampleAs best as any of us can, the pastor must lead by example. The Bible calls pastors to be models of godliness and righteousness (1 Peter 5:3). The pastor must exhibit a Christ‑like character in both their public and private life.
Overseeing the ChurchThe pastor should work with other leaders/staff to ensure that the church is functioning effectively.
Maintaining Biblical PurityThe pastor should be responsible for maintaining biblical purity. The pastor should ensure that the teaching and practices of the church align with the Bible. The pastor must guard against false teachings and doctrines.
Building Unity in the ChurchThe pastor should be partially responsible for building unity in the church in concert with the Elder Board. The pastor should encourage the members to work together towards a common goal of advancing God's kingdom.
