Preschool Instructor

Position: Preschool Instructor (Classified Teacher)

Department: Valley View Preschool
Reports to: Preschool Teacher Evaluator
FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervisory Duties: None

Job Description

Responsible for planning and implementing daily classroom lesson plans and ensuring safety of children in the preschool classroom.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare weekly lesson plans and post them in accordance with administrative guidelines.
  • Oversee and facilitate the general safety of the classroom environment and its activities, including outside play.
  • Interact with children through instructional methods that include play, music, arts and crafts, reading, writing, science and physical activities.
  • Assist children with completing assigned projects and enhancing learning skills.
  • Design and maintain classroom climate, including visual aids related to curriculum and age/stage of development.
  • Monitor talents, special abilities, disabilities, deficiencies or problems of each individual child, document issues/consequences as needed and follow district protocol to access screening resources.
  • Promote and foster each child's positive self‑esteem and individual development toward fullest potential in the areas of physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth.
  • Prepare ongoing evaluations for children throughout the year.
  • Establish and maintain a positive interpersonal relationship with all children, fellow staff and parents/guardians.
  • Assist children with personal care activities, including toileting, feeding and cleanliness needs, in relation to age/stage of development.
  • Work closely with preschool team members for classroom activities and share pertinent information, suggestions or ideas on a regular basis.
  • Assist in daily supervision of classroom paraprofessionals.
  • Attend in‑service training, conferences, staff meetings and parent meetings as required.
  • Perform general classroom cleaning duties as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and current attendance records and other related paperwork.
  • Adhere to all established policies, procedures and code of ethics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education & Experience:
    • Qualified by the Arizona Department of Health, CPR & First Aid certification required after hiring and must be maintained.
    • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field, OR
    • 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field, with a plan leading to a Child Development Associate credential and one year of experience related to caring for children.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to crouch, crawl, use hands and reach with arms, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Office and school environment; primarily indoor work but may require occasional outdoor work. Noise level generally quiet to moderate.
