JROTC Instructor

JROTC Instructor who is innovative, enthusiastic and looking for the opportunity to prepare students for a successful future. Hopi Junior Senior High School is committed to helping all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning and career and vocational development. The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Army Instructor is responsible for the conduct of academic and extracurricular instruction and training of Cadets enrolled in JROTC.

This position is responsible to the Principal for accurate completion of all records and reports required by the high school and district.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Teaches JROTC classes which may include:
    Citizenship-Ethical Values, Integrity, Responsibility and Respect for Constituted Authority; U.S. Constitution;
    Leadership;
    Federal & Military Justice System;
    Communications-Oral & Substance Abuse Prevention;
    Self-esteem;
    Teamwork;
    American Military History;
    Educational & Vocational Opportunities.
  • Supervises students in all activities such as a Drill & Ceremony, Rifle Team, Color Guard, Honor Guard, and Physical Fitness/Raider Team.
  • Develops special activity lesson plans such as drills & ceremonies, marksmanship, color and honor guards, and adventure training.
  • Coordinates with feeder schools for pre-enrollment activities.
  • Coordinates guest speakers.
  • Tailors course content to meet student and school district needs.
  • Conducts leadership academy of students/cadets selected for leadership positions.
  • Coaches various JROTC varsity athletic teams.
  • Conducts adventure training such as rappelling and orienteering.
  • Coordinates promotion and award ceremonies. Maintains and submits academic and military records and report to the Senior High School Principal and U.S. Army Cadet Command, as required.
  • Ensures security of equipment.
  • Requisition s applicable Army publications required for training and academic activities.
  • Assumes duties as the Department of Defense Service Educational Activity (SEA) Donation Program Representative.
  • Assumes duties as U.S. Army Property Book Officer, Military Property Manager, and Military Property Custodian.
  • Conducts and assists in the annual Spring Leadership Camp.
  • Maintains professional conduct consistent with effective and orderly education to protect students, maintain district property, and abide by school policies and rules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of best practice teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of best practices in classroom management.
  • Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques.
  • Knowledge of district rules of conduct and ethics.
  • Skills in monitoring and correcting student behavior.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills; ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with others.
  • Knowledge of general school site rules and policy.
  • Knowledge of Governing Board rules of conduct and policy.
  • Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, possess the ability to interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff and the public.

Qualifications:

  • Be a retired U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officer, in the grade of Staff Sergeant (E6) through Command Sergeant Major (E9) or Sergeant Major (E9) drawing full retirement benefits.
  • Be certified by U.S. Army Cadet Command to teach Army JROTC.
  • Obtain Arizona Department of Education certificate in the area of JROTC within 3 months of accepting Army Instructor position.
  • Meet U.S. Army height and weight standards for certification as JROTC Instructor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hopi/Indian Preference in employment considered.
  • Valid State Driver Licenses.
  • Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must successfully pass employment background checks within the last five years which include state, federal and local tribe.

Indian Preference Policy:
