Tohono O’odham Community College (TOCC) is looking for a dynamic Adjunct Writing Instructor to join our Writing and Humanities department. This is an opportunity to teach in a vibrant tribal community college setting where your work directly supports student success and institutional mission.

As a Writing Instructor, you will create an engaging and effective learning environment through various delivery methods, including in-person, online (synchronous and asynchronous), and hybrid formats. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Teach writing courses using college-approved outlines while developing instructional materials that promote deep learning.
- Evaluate student work, provide frequent feedback, and connect students with essential college support services.
- Collaborate on curriculum development, review teaching materials, and select textbooks.
- Measure student learning at both course and program levels to continuously improve educational results.
- Assist in student recruitment and retention efforts while maintaining accurate student records and attendance.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty, and administrators.
- The ability to establish positive relationships with individuals from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
- Skill in using various teaching methodologies and instructional technologies to meet student needs.
- A team-player mindset ready to cooperate with staff to maintain a professional and positive educational environment.
- Master’s degree in the teaching field, or a Master’s in any field combined with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (no DUIs or major offenses within the last three years).
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check and fingerprint clearance.
- Two years of teaching experience at the higher education level.
- Ability to speak and understand O’odham and/or Spanish.
- Knowledge and understanding of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.
Schedule:
- Average work week is approximately 8 hours, though this varies based on grading and student correspondence.
- Instructors may choose to teach virtually (synchronously or asynchronously) or in-person.
- Primarily sedentary work in a typical office/administrative environment.
- Requires close visual acuity for computer work, data analysis, and extensive reading.
