Elementary Literacy Specialist / Reading Interventionist
The Elementary Literacy Specialist / Reading Interventionist is responsible for improving student literacy achievement through targeted reading intervention, evidence-based instructional practices, and collaboration with classroom teachers. This position provides direct reading intervention services to students, supports teachers in strengthening literacy instruction, and assists with implementing the district's comprehensive literacy program. The Literacy Specialist serves as a collaborative instructional leader who works closely with students, teachers, administrators, and families to ensure every student has the opportunity to become a successful reader.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted reading intervention to students identified through screening, assessment, and progress monitoring.
- Administer literacy assessments and analyze student performance data.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized intervention plans.
- Maintain accurate records, progress monitoring data, and required documentation.
- Collaborate with teachers to transition students into and out of intervention services.
- Support classroom teachers in implementing effective, evidence-based literacy instruction.
- Model instructional strategies and provide coaching support when appropriate.
- Assist teachers with analyzing assessment data to guide instructional decisions.
- Support implementation of district literacy curriculum, instructional resources, and intervention programs.
- Assist with district literacy screenings, benchmark assessments, and MTSS processes.
- Participate in Student Support Team (SST) and MTSS meetings as assigned.
- Utilize technology to support instruction, assessment, communication, and recordkeeping.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
- Promote a positive learning environment focused on student growth and academic success.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and district information.
- Participate in professional development, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and district committees.
- Support the mission, vision, goals, and strategic priorities of Peach Springs Unified School District #8.
- Comply with Governing Board policies, administrative regulations, and all applicable federal and state laws.
- Maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate.
- Structured English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement.
- Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention.
- Knowledge of student assessment and progress monitoring.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, families, and administrators.
Preferred:
- Reading Specialist Endorsement.
- Experience providing reading intervention.
- Experience with MTSS, curriculum implementation, instructional coaching, or elementary literacy programs.
- LETRS training or other Science of Reading professional development is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to move throughout classrooms and school facilities.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Terms of Employment:
Salary, benefits, work calendar, and conditions of employment shall be established by the Governing Board in accordance with district policy and the current certified salary schedule.
