SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None
SUMMARY: Addresses all student academic, personal, social and career development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Provides a comprehensive school counseling program that supports students’ academic achievement, college and career readiness, social-emotional development, and personal growth.
- Provides individual and group counseling services to students addressing academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and career-related needs.
- Develops and implements a school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and district goals.
- Collaborates with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community agencies to identify student needs and provide appropriate support and resources.
- Assists students in developing academic plans, selecting coursework, monitoring graduation requirements, and preparing for postsecondary education, career pathways, and workforce opportunities.
- Provides guidance related to college and career exploration, scholarships, financial aid, applications, and employment opportunities.
- Maintains accurate and confidential student records, counseling documentation, and required reports in accordance with federal and state laws and district policies.
- Uses student data to identify trends, evaluate counseling program effectiveness, and develop interventions to support student success.
- Participates in student support teams, intervention meetings, threat assessment teams, and multidisciplinary problem‑solving processes as appropriate.
- Assists with the identification and support of students experiencing academic, social, emotional, behavioral, or personal challenges.
- Provides crisis intervention, support, and referrals to appropriate school and community resources when needed.
- Supports students with transitions between grade levels, schools, postsecondary institutions, and career opportunities.
- Assists with the development and implementation of academic intervention plans, graduation plans, and student success initiatives.
- Provides classroom guidance lessons and presentations on topics such as study skills, goal setting, conflict resolution, career awareness, mental health awareness, and responsible decision-making.
- Promotes an inclusive, respectful, and supportive school climate that recognizes and values the diverse needs of all students.
- Advocates for equitable access to educational opportunities, programs, and resources for all students.
- Works collaboratively with teachers and administrators to support student engagement, attendance, behavior, and academic success.
- Communicates effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, resources, and available support services.
- Maintains confidentiality and complies with FERPA, Arizona laws, district policies, and ethical standards governing school counseling.
- Participates in professional development activities to remain current with counseling practices, educational requirements, mental health resources, and student support strategies.
- Assists with school registration, scheduling, testing coordination, and other student services as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
