ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support NUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engages in meaningful leaning experiences.
- Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with carrying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvements.
- Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
- Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
- Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
- Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
- Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools.
- Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
- Demonstrates gains in student performance.
- Participates in professional growth training.
- Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordination.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certification with approved area/endorsement.
- Special Education Certification.
- Level One IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field of study.
- Previous experience working with Special Education student populations.
ESSENTIAL ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Demonstrating organization, a patient attitude, and ability to motivate students every day.
- Understanding the needs of Special Need students and accepting the differences of those students.
- Using various techniques to promote learning.
- Develop and implement student IEPs.
- Review the IEP with the student’s parents, school administrators, and other teachers.
- Works closely with parents to inform them of their children’s progress.
- Suggesting techniques to promote learning outside of the school environment.
