Position Overview
Solar & BESS Technician I. This role ensures that AES CE operates its portfolio to standards that exceed industry best‑practice.
Location:
McFarland site in Dateland, AZ. The candidate must be able to commute daily to the site.
- Responsible for assigned O&M activities associated with the Energy Storage sites and substations related to both utility‑scale and distribution‑scale Energy Storage.
- Performs/assists with corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for equipment including installed Inverters, transformers, battery modules, DC Collection equipment, and AC Collection and Distribution equipment and systems.
- Performs/assists with routine maintenance work—electrical troubleshooting and repair, instrumentation calibration, basic Inverter troubleshooting—up to the candidate’s capabilities and as directed by the supervisor and work orders from the maintenance management system.
- Prepares and implements switching and clearance orders.
- Operates electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
- Participates in training as required; some training may require limited travel.
- Performs/assists with technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining a power plant.
- May assist with site vegetation management plans, including operating tractors, riding mowers, and other vegetation maintenance equipment.
- Writes/assists with Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions and other documents as assigned.
- Ensures work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.
- May perform work independently and/or in work crews, depending upon skills and experience.
- Understands and promotes general workplace safety and follows safety standards, contributing to the improvement of existing standards.
- Experience with electrical systems and basic safety principles, including LOTO and Electrical Safety.
- Proficient in operating personal computer with standard business software; experience with SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is highly recommended.

- Ability to speak and understand Spanish and Portuguese is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical degree, Solar certification, Energy Storage Certification (preferred).
- Experience in energy storage system installation (preferred).
- Basic knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals (single‑craft journeyman skills), such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid‑state theory application, and/or basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices installed in power facilities.
- Work outside in a normal energy storage power plant and/or office environment, including high/low ambient temperatures and humidity, and possibly working at heights.
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data.
- Requires use of personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.).
