We are currently seeking talented individuals for the position of General Plant Operator I at our power plant facility located in Springerville, AZ. The Springerville Generating Station operates four coal-fired units with a combined generating capacity of over 1600 megawatts of power.

Position Description

This classification provides for vehicle and equipment operation for the Coal and Ash facility. Upon entry into the classification, this employee should be able to perform the less complicated tasks. After training, practice and completion of all applicable safety courses in all levels of the classification, he/she will be examined at the end of the first six-month period to determine the employee’s progress.

This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Position-Related Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned work alone or with others in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Must complete all applicable training requirements.
  • Assist personnel in the department they are assigned to complete daily tasks.
  • Able to take directions and have a willingness to learn.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)

  • Ability to move equipment to and from job site locations.
  • Possess the ability to learn the required duties and the physical coordination necessary to use tools and equipment associated with his/her work area.
  • Have basic understanding and comply with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing and demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, including speaking and describing safety/maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write legibly, distinguish color codes, make basic mathematical computations, read non-technical sketches and to operate job-related office machines.
  • Able to work with people in a team environment and harmoniously with fellow coworkers.
  • Ability to be flexible and prioritize multiple project assignments or tasks.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs, and the Company to the level of their knowledge, training, and experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
General Plant Operator I

An employee should be able to perform the basic tasks including pre and post-trip inspections and other duties associated with operating the vacuum truck, hydro blaster and man lifts.

May have responsibility for handling hazardous materials which require specific certificates and job training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certificate of Completion NPC Industrial Maintenance & Operations or equivalent 2 year program in power plant operations.
