Boiler & Steam Turbine Plant Operator (MN 1A License)

Reports To:

Energy & Utilities Systems Coordinator

Wage: $38/hr

Schedule:

12-hour rotating shifts day and night, with every other weekend required (2-2-3 rotation)

Summary

We are hiring on behalf of a client for a Boiler & Steam Turbine Plant Operator. This position is responsible for operating high-pressure steam boilers, steam turbines, and related utility systems including cooling towers, chillers, air compressors, water treatment systems, wells, and auxiliary equipment. This role works 12-hour rotating shifts, including both day and night shifts, with every other weekend required.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, troubleshooting ability, and the capability to respond quickly to operational issues. This role is critical to maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain high-pressure boilers, steam turbines, and related utility equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and rounds to ensure safe and efficient plant operation.
  • Perform routine water testing and maintain required water treatment parameters.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and assist with repairs as needed.
  • Develop a strong understanding of process flows, equipment functions, and system layouts.
  • Read and follow standard operating procedures, equipment manuals, and P&IDs.
  • Operate or learn to operate forklifts, skid steers, and other mobile equipment.
  • Work independently and as part of a team while making sound operational decisions.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs and operational records.
  • Assist with creating, maintaining, and updating standard operating procedures.
  • Follow all safety, security, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Promote a clean, safe, organized, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and consistent attendance.
Qualifications
  • Current State of Minnesota 1st Class A Engineer License required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to learn and operate computerized process control systems (DCS, PLC, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and related software platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, equipment manuals, operating instructions, and P&IDs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, multiplication, and division.
  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperatures ranging from
    -20°F to 100°F.
  • Comfortable working on elevated platforms up to 80 feet high and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to perform manual labor as required.
