Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

The Environmental Technician 2 supports Pinto Valley Mine’s environmental compliance programs through field monitoring, sampling, inspections, and reporting. This role applies intermediate-level environmental skills to help manage environmental risks while supporting Capstone’s commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and zero harm.
Position Responsibilities- Perform environmental sampling, inspections, and monitoring activities in accordance with permits and regulatory requirements.
- Support compliance programs related to air quality, water, wastewater, stormwater, waste management, hazardous materials, AZPDES, and APP requirements.
- Collect, document, and enter environmental data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Conduct work area inspections using WPE, FLRA, or THA processes.
- Participate in daily line-outs and safety meetings.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with Environmental Technicians, Operations, Processing, and support departments.
- Coordinate with contractors as needed to support environmental activities.
- Ensure all work complies with Pinto Valley Mine procedures and MSHA standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required:
- Knowledge of in-pit driving, radio communication, and working safely around mobile equipment.
- Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout/Tryout, confined space, fall protection, and barricading procedures.
- MSHA New Miner or Annual Refresher training.
- Demonstrated proficiency in environmental monitoring techniques, including sampling wells, outfalls, seeps, Method 9 observations, piezometer data collection, and data entry.
- Forklift certification (MSHA 5000-23).
- Working knowledge of SAP or similar systems.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Five or more years of environmental compliance experience in a mining or industrial setting.
