Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open‑pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, a crushed‑ore leach pad and stacking system, a low‑grade run‑of‑mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Description

Under limited supervision, organize, manage and evaluate designated engineering projects and programs, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at an appropriate cost.

  • Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned engineering projects.
  • Manage projects and serve as SME on large/complex site planning/construction, expansion or modifications.
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable processes, practices, and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations.
  • Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated engineering areas.
  • Develop and evaluate AFE's (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests.
  • Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment.
  • Represent the site on company‑sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work on complex issues and implement solutions through determination of strategy and delegation to others in a group or functional area.
  • Collaborate with managers and/or functional or site leaders and interact with external colleagues.
  • Work under moderate supervision with latitude to set objectives, priorities and timelines that may impact the department or individual work group.
  • Contribute to budget preparation by supplying costs and recommendations; manage appropriate project budgets for consulting services.
  • Manage a specific program or project, typically without supervising people.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline and five (5) years related experience in engineering or a related field, OR
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline and three (3) years related experience in engineering or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering.
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skilled in managing large/complex engineering projects.
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and general understanding of multidiscipline mining projects.
  • Experience in mine planning and financial evaluation process.
  • Experience collaborating with multidiscipline groups to develop comprehensive scope of work.
  • Experience in project budgeting and scheduling.
