About the Position
The Chief of Staff provides high-level strategic and administrative support to the Elected Assessor and the Chief Deputy Assessor. This role is responsible for coordinating public education efforts, advancing legislative priorities, maintaining key political and community relationships, and leading special projects. The Chief of Staff must be an exceptional written and verbal communicator with the ability to influence, build trust, and demonstrate courage in an environment undergoing cultural and operational transformation.
This position will be critical in organizational goal setting, strategic planning, and the alignment and coordination of multiple work groups across the office.

We Require
- Six years of professional experience with at least 2 years of supervisory experience
- At least 2 years’ experience working for an elected official or political office
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
- A combination of post‑secondary education and/or job‑related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year‑for‑year basis
Job Contributions
- Coordinates efforts with the senior leadership team and other partners to ensure the achievement of the elected Assessor’s mission and strategic priorities and goals.
- Provides executive‑level leadership and oversight of key organizational work groups, including government relations, communications, and legal services, ensuring alignment with the Assessor’s strategic priorities.
- Provides executive‑level communication support, including drafting speeches and correspondence, advising the Assessor, and representing the Assessor at public events and meetings.
- Advises and supports the Assessor on a local and national basis, including National Association of Counties (NACo), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), and similar.
- Coordinates agendas and action items related to the STAR Contact Center and the Association of Assessing Officers (AAAO).
- Establishes new and enhances existing relationships with state administrative and legislative leaders and their staff members.
- Resolves high‑level or sensitive taxpayer complaints that have progressed beyond the normal resolution process.
- Reviews, analyzes, and collaborates on the impact of proposed legislation related to the Assessor’s Office.
- Coordinates and provides public education information to legislators and local jurisdictions.
- Supports the Chief Deputy Assessor in overseeing programs and services.
- Conducts studies and projects related to administrative operational concerns and develop recommendations.
