Overview
Under general supervision, counsels clients and develops/implements a variety of projects and activities to promote substance abuse awareness and related behavioral health issues throughout the community.

Masters' Degree in Counseling or Social Work and who is either licensed or license eligible is a required. Working knowledge of substance abuse is preferred. Must have a working understanding of HIPPA requirements. Must have a working knowledge of adult case management and work as a team leader for the Adult Case Manager. Must be a person of highly stable character with a proven ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality, work a flexible schedule, and work independently.
Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community s insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete a background check.
- Develops treatment plans, writes progress notes, makes appropriate referrals, and writes discharge summaries.
- Counsels clients, individually, or in family or group sessions, regarding mental health issues.
- Responds to calls for emergency intervention services as needed.
- Develops programs to educate youth and other interested parties regarding substance abuse, including drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and gambling.
- Facilitates various therapeutic groups with clients.
- Participates in a variety of training conferences regarding behavioral health/substance abuse.
- Works effectively with other local area behavioral health/social service agencies to coordinate services for employees, members and their families.
- All referrals to outside agencies can only take place if approved by the Director.
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all matters involving clients both during and off work hours.
- Will rotate being on call.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of available behavioral health, social service, and social welfare programs provided through Ak-Chin Indian Community, Gila River Indian Community, State, and Federal programs.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of behavioral health/social service counseling and behavior modification.
- Knowledge of the behavioral actions and physical manifestations of drug and/or alcohol abuse.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with community youth, community members, a Community Department employees, law enforcement personnel, legal representatives, State/Federal agencies, and a variety of institutions and facilities.
- Skill in counseling individuals, families, and small groups regarding a variety of substance abuse and related behavioral health issues/problems.
- Skill in identifying resources for referring clients needing programs/services not available at Ak-Chin Indian Community.
- Ability to work with inmates in a jail setting as needed.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability to work with adults.
- Ability to express ideas in a clear and precise manner, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
