OR Tech - CST​/First Assistant

In‑Office | Parker, AZ, United States. Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3 pm, and on‑call Monday through Friday, every other weekend.

OR Tech – CST/First Assistant at Talented Medical Solutions, contracting position. Certified first assist/surgical tech with BLS and First Assist Scrub Tech qualification. Requires experience in general, podiatry, and orthopedics. First Assist experience required for a 13‑week assignment.

• Graduated from an accredited Surgical Technician Program and a First Assist Program.
• Current certification as a Surgical Technician/First Assist.
• Current BLS Certification.
• Typical knowledge level obtained with at least two (2) years of surgical technician experience.

Functions as surgical first assistant to the surgeon during operations, working under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy, laws and regulations. May also perform the duties of a surgical technician. All surgical staff assist with room turnover.

• Interacts professionally with patients and families, providing explanations and verbal reassurance as needed.
• Adapts procedures to meet individual needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, anticipating the surgeon’s needs during the intra‑operative phase.
• Performs aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Follows written procedures for steam sterilization, chemical and biological monitoring, and maintains responsibility for care of instruments/equipment during the intra/post‑operative phase, including cleaning and processing of instruments.
• Accurately completes operating room counts (instruments, sponges, needles); follows proper procedure for incorrect count; reports discrepancies to circulating nurse and surgeon and/or corrects immediately.
• Collaborates regularly with nursing team members to maintain equipment and supplies for surgical procedures; sets up, scrubs and prepares for procedures at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled time unless otherwise directed.
• Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain a steady level of productivity; self‑motivated; organization and activity management reflects due consideration for departmental needs.
• Maintains an orderly and sterile instrument table to support efficiency; follows departmental standard set‑up.
• Applies sutures, staples, clips, and drainage systems; clamps or cauterizes blood vessels to control bleeding.
• Ensures sterile operating field by covering patients with surgical drapes, removing body hair, and disinfecting incision site.

• Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
• Physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly to unexpected patient care needs.
• Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye‑hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects.
• Can assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair using proper body mechanics.
• May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must use standard precautions due to exposure risk to blood and bodily fluids.
• Must communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or over the telephone.
• May require periodic use of personal computer.
